Master's Weekend 2011
From 6-8 May a group of some thirty Freemen and guests, led by the Master, enjoyed a visit to Ypres and the World War 1 battlefields in Flanders. Very efficiently organised by the Renter Warden, Malcolm Dick, the weekend included tours to battlefield sites such as Paschendaele and both Commonwealth and German cemeteries. On 8 May we attended the daily Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, and the Master laid a wreath on behalf of the Company, while Freeman Jonathan Swan had the honour of piping the Lament. (This can be seen on www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DIRIxJfh5A).
As well as the solemn and moving experiences involved, the weekend also allowed for convivial gatherings including an excellent dinner on the Saturday night. A full report will appear in a future issue of "The Educator".
